The bride answers concerns from fans after a video of her “empty” wedding received millions of views. She reveals how many people RSVPed but failed to show up, as well as why they’re now “deleting a lot of people out of our lives.”
After ten months of preparation and nearly five years of engagement, a woman and her partner were married in Saint Helens, Oregon, only to be devastated and start doubting their friendships when no one showed up.
In a video that went viral last week, a woman named Kalina Marie told TikTok her crazy story.
“POV: You had the most exquisite entrance prepared. She wrote, “Just to open the doors to an empty venue,” over the video of her, her husband, and her kid entering their reception, which was almost deserted except for a few guests.
“This is how we enter our masquerade party. For the past ten months, I have been talking a lot about the masquerade event. I also digitally invited more than seventy-five guests to the same ball. However, she also paid to send out 25 lovely invitations,” she captioned the photo.
“FIVE PERSONS APPEARED!!!!!! According to her, her mother initially informed her that no one was present at 1:15 on the wedding day, even though the invitations stated to arrive at 1pm. “Like, are you kidding me!?!?” she added.
“At two o’clock, my spouse and I arrived to a crowd of five persons. “At a location intended for forty,” she wrote.
“I had a dream that I would enter a crowd of people supporting us. “You see a woman trying to keep herself together because she had no idea how to deal with her venue being nearly empty, but they’re hooting and hollering for us in celebration,” Kalina continued.
After pointing out all the “Wasted food and drinks,” the woman said that the group that was present still managed to make the most of the day.
“It simply gets me to wondering, why? What did we do? Am I really such a horrible person? How could my husband have earned all of this? She questioned, “Why couldn’t we be important enough for people to come?” “Some of my ‘friends’ have yet to message me to offer their congratulations or to explain why they were unable to attend. It really sickens me. To be honest, I still don’t get this.”
She wrote at the end of her post, “But I just know that I have my boyfriend. My darling. and relatives who come through for me when I need them. And I’ll be grateful for that ❤️.
Influencer Many people commented on Kalina’s post, including Mama Tot, who said, “This hurts my heart for you.” “Don’t worry mama tot, I still made the most of my night 🥰 With my mama, my cousin, and my best friend,” the bride replied in a subsequent post.
She also sent a video of the tiny group dancing to “Everybody” by the Backstreet Boys, demonstrating that even with the absences, a good time was still had.
Many comments suggested having a “do-over,” and everyone who saw the video pledged to attend the newlyweds’ wedding if they made another attempt. Kalina expressed her gratitude for the suggestion, saying she never imagined her video would become as popular as it did. She claims that when she posted the first video, the bride had just 6,000 followers; today, it has had almost 9 million views, and she has 20,000 followers.
“I am totally overburdened. between experiencing TikTok’s love and support. However, we also have to cope with the sadness of losing many individuals in our lives. Since this occurred only last Saturday, it has been a roller coaster of emotions,” she said in a different video.
“I really appreciate you all proposing a redo; wouldn’t that be fantastic? However, as many of you have mentioned, I really only need my small group. And I really know now who is supporting me and who isn’t,” she continued. “I will just be forever grateful that so many people got to see the entrance I dreamed about for so long 😭❤️🫶🏽😭❤️🫶🏽”
In other recordings, Kalina described herself as the woman “who got stood up by all my friends and family,” adding that the couple became engaged in December 2019 before the pandemic and other difficulties caused a delay. She said that “for the past 10 months, I have been blabbing about this” on social media since they announced their wedding date in January. “I even created a Facebook event and sent out 25 invitations to people who aren’t online,” she said.
“We made plans for the 40 RSVPs I had. We prepared the space for forty guests. She added, “My mom is a chef, and she prepared enough food for 40 people.” “I checked in with everyone the week of [the wedding] and at least 20 people had gotten back to me saying they had an outfit and they were coming.”
However, that did not occur.
“Why is the most important question, and I’m not sure. I would tell you if I could respond to that question. She said, “for the most part, we’ve done a lot of deleting and re-evaluating our lives and spending a lot of time appreciating what we have and what we had.” “I haven’t received a lot of messages explaining why people weren’t there or giving excuses,” she said.
Later, she confirmed that her best friend and her cousin were among those that attended. “To all those people who had this happen to them, I am truly very sorry because I wouldn’t even with this on my worst enemy,” she continued. “I couldn’t have done any of this without them or made it through any of it without them,” she said.
As her story continued to garner attention, Kalia posted another video on Wednesday in response to those who speculated that she “must be such a horrible person” due to her circumstances.
“Imagine hating on someone you don’t even know because you’re jealous of the attention they got for one of the most embarrassing moments of their life 👌🏽 yes im a real person,” she wrote on a video of herself at the gym.
“Yes, my feelings are genuine. Indeed, I am still working through everything. Additionally, I value all of the encouraging and positive remarks that have been made,” she continued. “I will take them and keep them with me always 🫶🏽 much love to you all 🫶🏽”
Although Kalina acknowledged that she was grateful to those who offered to create a GoFundMe for her, she instead requested that viewers give them wedding cards, providing a PO Box location for them to send them to.
That address is PO Box 1047, Saint Helens, Oregon 97051, Kalina and Shane.
