A huge explosion at a port facility in southern Iran has reportedly left at least 25 people dead and about 1000 injured.
According to CNN, Reuters, and Iranian news agency IRNA, the explosion at the Shahid Rajaee port in Bandar Abbas on Saturday, April 26, is thought to have been caused by dangerous chemical compounds kept nearby.
The ports in the Strait of Hormuz were covered in dense plumes of black smoke after the explosion, according to footage the outlets were able to collect.
As smoke and flames filled the air, another video showed residents driving into a nearby parking lot and recording the explosion.
According to IRNA, the Hormozgan Province Justice Department’s public relations office confirmed that eight males and two women have been positively identified as murdered in the incident. There are still six unaccounted for.
