The communications team of the Spanish Foreign Ministry said the Spanish Consulate of New York City is in contact with authorities and their identities are being kept until family notification.
According to CNN, the weather was overcast with winds of 10 to 15 mph with gusts as high as 25 mph at the time of the collision.
Ten miles of surface visibility was deemed excellent, but the area was overcast due to a system that is in route and may deliver light rain this afternoon and evening.
Parts of the helicopter were seen flying off, while additional video showed the chopper ‘flying erratically’ seconds before it crashed into the ocean.
“The families of those who were onboard have our deepest sympathies,” Mayor Eric Adams said. “Unfortunately, all six victims have been declared dead and have been pulled out of the water.”
