After a botched cosmetic treatment that left Carol Bryan with serious disfigurement, she had to tape her eyelids open. Because of the trauma, she was unable to leave her house or even look in the mirror.
“Looking like a monster” was how one woman described herself after undergoing a cosmetic filler procedure that left her seriously scarred.
Carol Bryan made the decision to have silicone injections done in order to address the creases on her forehead in a permanent manner.
The outcomes, regrettably, fell very short of her expectations.
Her forehead started to fall over her eyes, causing her to become terribly disfigured due to the tremendous swelling.
The issue was identified as a serious reaction caused by the combination of two different facial fillers in a single syringe, which was subsequently injected into her face.
She had to tape her eyes open in order to see, and she frequently covered her face with sunglasses and hats to disguise the damage.
“At sixteen, I began modeling and working in the cosmetics sector. I had a prosperous spouse, a lovely daughter, and a family that was encouraging and caring.
“From the outside looking in, it must have seemed like I had it all, but looking back now I see that my life was lacking so much.”
In 2009, under pressure to keep up her beauty, Carol was convinced to undergo facial fillers.
She thinks back on that choice as a life-altering event that sent her down a dark direction.
She disclosed in an interview with The Independent that “I had to hide from my friends and family, but I also hid from myself, never looking in the mirror, because my face started to swell and contract to that extent.”
“I felt like I had the head of an alien, my forehead so heavy that it fell and covered my eyes so that I could not see unless I taped or held up my forehead.”
Carol sought assistance from a number of doctors for years, but her efforts were unsuccessful until she met plastic surgeon Dr. Brian Boyd, who had heard about her case from Dr. Reza Jarrahy.
Together, they sought to repair the harm the fillers had caused.
She remarked after the experience: “This group of surgeons really performed wonders. Without their extensive knowledge and experience, I would still be covering my left eye with my head scarf and holding my forehead skin up. I still wouldn’t feel comfortable leaving my house.”
“Despite all their most careful efforts, however, the initial surgery left me blind in my right eye; there could have been worse complications, so ultimately I am lucky to have only lost half my vision.”
“Unfortunately, I didn’t realize that true beauty starts on the inside until I couldn’t recognize myself,” Carol added. I’ve realized how important every minute of life is and how deceptive appearances may be.”
