Contestant on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire is astonished when he uses Phone a Friend to contact his wife, only to have a guy take the call.

Things are getting fairly heated right now what with being under all these bright lights, having Jeremy Clarkson interrogate you, plus the fact that there is money on the line.

But what if, when you try to reach your wife, an unknown man answers the phone? I can almost feel your brain spinning just thinking about it.

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire is the only place where this kind of thing could happen. or in a bizarre dream about questioning, I suppose.

What happened next shocked Clarkson: the competitor called his wife using his Phone a Friend feature, and a guy answered.

In 2020, while performing on the ITV program, contestant JP Hogan contacted his partner.

The Lincoln science teacher had been making progress, but he ran into a wall with an unclear question that, if answered right, would have earned him £16,000 had he continued.

According to Clarkson, “Which of these days is part of the weekend in Germany?”

Dienstag, Donnerstag, Mittwoch, or Sonntag were Hogan’s choices. (By the way, it was Sonntag).

Further complicating matters, he teaches physics not languages, so he was completely bewildered.

His only hope, however, was a relative in Germany who had lived there for more than half a century; his wife had visited the country on many occasions.

“My wife, who at different times would probably have been in the audience, is at home as one of my Phone a Friends.”

Take advantage of that opportunity, he contacted his other half Elizabeth in the hopes that she might lend him a hand.

As the studio’s dial tone began to ring, Clarkson swiftly enquired as to whether Hogan would want him to update her on his progress; however, they both drew back in surprise as they discerned a male voice on the other end.

“That was a man who just answered your phone…,” the Top Gear personality informed the gamer after uncomfortable listening to a few things said by a male voice.

Let it all out! It may not be malicious at all.

As the audience, Clarkson, and Hogan anxiously awaited Elizabeth’s return to the phone, she naively answered: “Hello?”

Following the host’s inquiry, she verified that she was accompanied by others.

Who was the guy who answered the phone when JP called his wife? That was the query posed by one social media user during a break. Who Wants to Be a Multi-Millionaire?

However, another individual saw that the Phone a Friend disaster really had a quite harmless cause.

An artificial voice saying’sorry there is no service’ was the guy responding, they said. An affair was only a joke to Jeremy.

Some have hypothesised that Elizabeth meant that a show employee was watching her every move to prevent her from cheating and looking up the solution for Hogan on Google.

Thankfully, the candidate remained focused and won £64,000 before departing the program.
