The tragic passing of Fetty Wap’s 4-year-old daughter Lauren Maxwell in June 2021 sparked an outpouring of grief and controversy surrounding the circumstances of her death.
According to official reports, Lauren died from “a fatal cardiac arrhythmia due to complications of congenital cardiac anomalies” at her family’s home in Riverdale, Georgia on June 24, 2021 2511. This congenital heart condition had reportedly affected her since birth 911.
The heartbreaking news was first shared publicly by Lauren’s mother, Turquoise Miami, in an emotional Instagram post on July 31, 2021 – over a month after her daughter’s passing.
She described Lauren as her “amazing, beautiful, funny, vibrant, loving, talented, smart and hardheaded princess mermaid Aquarius” alongside a touching video of the child playing in a swimming pool 2312.
Fetty Wap (real name Willie Junior Maxwell II) also mourned his daughter publicly, calling her his “twin” and posting tributes including butterfly emojis in honor of her love for the insects 5912.
However, the situation became controversial when media outlets reported the cause of death before the autopsy results were finalized. Turquoise Miami angrily responded on Instagram, calling out TMZ specifically for obtaining and publishing information from the death certificate prematurely.
She emphasized that while the death certificate listed cardiac arrhythmia from a congenital heart defect, this was not the complete explanation for Lauren’s passing 19.
“HOW DARE Y’ALL GO STEAL MY CHILD’S DEATH CERTIFICATE AND ANNOUNCE THE CAUSE OF DEATH BEFORE ANYBODY WAS READY,” Miami wrote 9.
The grieving mother also defended Fetty Wap’s role as a father amid public scrutiny, stating their co-parenting relationship had improved significantly
before Lauren’s death and that the rapper had become more financially and emotionally responsible 212. She asked for compassion, noting “Losing a child is as down as it gets” 2.
This tragedy marked the second major loss for Fetty Wap in less than a year, following the October 2020 death of his younger brother whom he considered his twin 12.
The rapper honored Lauren during his performance at Rolling Loud Miami shortly after her passing, later writing on Instagram: “LoLo daddy did that shit for you last night baby girl” 5911.
Lauren was one of Fetty Wap’s six children, and his only child with Turquoise Miami 11.
The circumstances surrounding her death and its media coverage highlighted both the profound pain of losing a child and the complex dynamics of grief in the public eye.
