Second corpse found: 7-year-old child dies in explosion In Newcastle

Newcastle emergency services received a blast report on October 16.

The tragedy killed seven-year-old Archie York. Later, a 30-year-old man’s corpse was located beneath the wreckage of Violet Close’s three demolished residences in Benwell.

Six more individuals were brought to the hospital, and no one is missing. Rest of inhabitants stay with friends and family.

“It is with great sadness that I stand in front of you today following the tragic death of a young child,” Superintendent Darren Adams said from the site. “A seven-year-old boy died in the early morning incident.

“He tragically died at the scene despite emergency services’ efforts.

“This is a devastating result.”

“I know Elswick and Benwell residents and our region will want to offer their condolences to family and friends. I cannot imagine their loss and suffering.”

The family of the seven-year-old who died calls him “a lovely lad.”

“My nephew Archie was the most beautiful, funny, and caring little boy, and his name should be shouted from the rooftops! His aunt Abbie York said the family is “devastated and heartbroken beyond words” and loves him so much.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the two victims.
