Miss America’s hallmarks have always been beauty, glitz, glittering gowns, and exquisite makeup. However, the public noticed when one contender, Kelly Johnson, made an exception.
Kelley, dressed in nursing scrubs, took the stage as the spokesperson for the state of Colorado. To the delight of many who were taken aback by the beautiful young woman’s attire, Kelly delivered a monologue about her experience caring for an elderly patient with Alzheimer’s disease.
Everyone was shocked and ecstatic when a Miss America contestant chose to compete in nurse scrubs rather than a gown.
Whether or if she wins the event, she has already gained popularity.
Kelly is currently working as a registered nurse after earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Grand View University in 2015. When she graduated, she was the valedictorian of the nursing class.
