Woman Escapes Attack by Registered Offender, Suspect Hospitalized After Dramatic Turn of Events

A woman from South Carolina agreed to meet Dennis Slaton at a Greenville gas station after they had a conversation online.

The woman introduced herself and got into the man’s truck, thinking it would be best to check out her new acquaintance in a public setting. She was unaware that it was all a part of a dangerous scheme.

As they drove away, the woman sensed that something wasn’t right. She gave Slaton $5 and politely asked him to drop her off in a nearby area, hoping to remove herself from the situation.

At that point, Slaton abruptly changed direction and brandished a knife, threatening her.

Slaton had harmful intentions and was a registered offender. Within minutes, they arrived at Slaton’s residence, where he forcibly brought her inside and assaulted her.

But his intended victim chose to fight back before things escalated further.

According to the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office incident report, the woman managed to seriously injure Slaton, reportedly by biting him, then took his knife and defended herself, according to WSPA.

As Slaton struggled from his injuries, the woman seized the moment to escape.

She ran out of the house and across the street to a nearby neighbor’s home, without clothing and covered in blood from the incident.

According to FOX News, the neighbor quickly contacted law enforcement to report the emergency, although they chose not to allow her inside their home.

Fearing Slaton might pursue her, the woman continued running until she reached a Waffle House less than a mile away to seek help.

Authorities responded swiftly to the scene, transporting Slaton to a hospital and bringing the woman to safety.

Due to the extent of his injuries, Slaton remained in critical care for over a month.

Despite having a lengthy criminal record that includes convictions for unlawful surveillance and other serious offenses, Slaton has denied the accusations related to this incident.

Neighbors have reported that police were called to Slaton’s home at least eight times in the past four years.

Slaton is now facing charges of criminal assault and kidnapping. He was granted a $75,000 bond a week after his arrest and was released from the hospital.

There has been no official word on the long-term outcome of his medical treatment. However, many believe that individuals with such histories should not be in a position to harm others again.

If anything, this experience may deter him from ever attempting to harm anyone in the future.

One can only hope he has learned that using violence against others can have lasting and painful consequences.
